There are different limitations for filing property damage claims in different states. I'm assuming that you're referring to a car accident. And are you referring only to damage to a vehicle, or is there any potential hint of a personal injury lawsuit? For example, beginning 2013, Florida has recently shortened the statute of limitations with regards to personal injury claims. I'm not sure what happened with limitations with regards to property claims, though.

What state did the accident take place in? Have you filed any claims at all yet? Was the other driver or were you insured at the time?

I'm not licensed in New Jersey, but this says the SOL is six years.
