Problem with credit card company mistake

I had a Bank of America credit card a couple years ago which I canceled and paid off when the interest rate got to high, at the time I had a credit score of 805 and was receiving 10 to 15 applications for credit cards a week,So when I received Bank of America mail I assumed it was another solicitation and shredded them with the rest. When I check my credit score a month ago it went from 805 to 607 due to my Bank of America account. After talking to Bank of America I was informed they allowed two reoccurring yearly subscription payments from AAA to post to my closed account, I was also informed they wanted their payment plus 2 1/2 years of late fees and my credit score was my own problem. I don't have any problem paying what I owe plus late fees but I can't believe I have no legal rights concerning this matter. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

What proof do you have that you cancelled it? You obviously were receiving bills and ignored them.

There has never been any dispute that my card was paid off and closed. A Bank of America representative researched this issue and found that a mistake had been made and assured me that it would be taking care of. One month later I checked my credit report and saw that my account was brought back to Bank of America from the collection agency and was marked as a charge-off. The Bank of America representative Camille assured me that my credit score and report would be restored to its original state I have attempted several times to contact this representative to find out that she no longer works in this department and cannot be reached. I am at a loss now where to go.
