I just received a letter yesterday from an atty saying my son shoplifted a few weeks ago at Kmart & I owe $144.90. This is the 1st I have heard about this. I called the number on the letter & they told me he stole a pair of gloves and the police were not involved & he was with a friend & he was released to somebody (he is 16yrs old) I dont understand why police were not involved& what legal rights do I have? How could they release him to somebody else? Why was I never notified of anything till I received this letter? Very confused what to do next?? Thank You!

Did the letter come from Wal-mart's attorney? Who do they want the check made out to? Have you spoken with your son? Do they even sell $150.00 gloves at wal-mart? I would be suspicious that there is some sort of scam being perpetrated. Do not write a check until all of your questions have been answered.
