He was appointed a public defender yesterday and his preliminary hearing hearing is set for 2 weeks. My Question is What can we do? What should we expect? He has never been in any trouble with the law before and I dont know where to begin...

These are all questions you should be posing for your public defender. The best case scenario is the district attorney will offer your son some time of plea deal that involves no jail time and no felonies on his record. If you cannot reach a plea bargain with the district attorney, the case will likely proceed to trial. The public defender should be able to tell you how much time he would be looking at if convicted on both counts and what the likelihood of success is in defending those charges.

Your son is small potatoes, so best case they will want to know who he gets his product from, and sentence him to 200 hours of community service. However, like mentioned above, you are better of asking the public defender.
