    Exclamation Who s considered on the lease?

    My bf and I live together and I am considered the tenant but he is considered an occupant does that mean hes on the lease ?

    Who is on the lease is easy to figure out. Look at the lease. If they are listed in some manner, they are on the lease.

    Agree with above post. He is on the lease if he is named on the lease and he signed it.

    I must dissagree with Diss and Legal. You state "you are the tenant" Your BF is an "OCCUPANT". Therefore, you signed the lease and listed your BF as an additional occupant. You are responsible to the landlord for rent but your BF must share in expenses. If not, you may sue BF for half the rent you paid. Afterall, he benefitted from your apartment.

    Absent a written agreement to the contrary, boyfriend has no obligation to pay rent as an occupant. Whether he benefited is irrelevant.
