    Rental Lease

I have lost my job for the past 2 months. All efforts to find one is proving futile. I can no longer afford to pay my rent. My current lease began about 5 days ago. How do I break the lease and move out. The landlord has 6 weeks of securuty deposit.

Tell the landlord about your situation. He may agree to break the lease and take 4 weeks of your security deposit towards this months rent (unless it has already been paid). Explain to him that allowing you to break the lease and rent it to someone else will save him money.

I have had a meeting with the property manager and explain my circumstance to her but she is being intrasigent by asking me to pay additional one month and two weeks of rent for breaking the lease. According to her my security deposit will be refunded to me at a later date. I find this this to be exploitative and absured. How do I come up with $1500.00 when I do not have a job while the management is keeping an equivalent amount? Please advise what the law requires so I cannot be taken advantage of. I'm so desparate, confused and need a legal assistance on this issue.

    Kojo.

What does your lease state in terms of breaking it? A lease is a contract so there can be penalties for breaking a lease. What state are you in?
